ESG roadmap to 2030
In 2023, Stahl will take further steps towards realizing its Scope 3 emissions reduction targets and other important ESG roadmap targets. By working with our partners, we believe we can help shape a better world for all.
2030 will mark the 100th anniversary of Stahl. By then, we expect to have achieved our ESG Roadmap targets. We also expect to be a more diverse and inclusive business and to have reduced our environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and eliminating harmful substances from our products. The wider chemical raw materials industry will have played its part in shaping a more responsible value chain, either by scaling up existing lower-carbon alternatives or designing new ones. This is how we envisage our industry in 2030: with Stahl as a positive force for change, working tirelessly with its partners to create a better world.
Climate change is a growing concern – and risk – for Stahl and its stakeholders. It also creates opportunities for new products, such as technologies based on renewable carbon. By integrating a climate resilience plan into our strategy, we believe we can secure our future and be a positive force for climate action in our industry. In 2022, we took further steps to integrate our Climate Resilience & Adaption Plan, which sets out our approach to this fundamental issue, including our ambitious targets and how we plan to achieve them. Follow the links below to learn more about the actions we took last year to help shape a better world.

In 2022, we continued to direct our efforts toward tackling climate change. By investing in renewable energy and improving the efficiency of our operations, we took steps to reduce the environmental effects of our operations, while working with our partners to reduce our overall environmental footprint. We made further progress toward our 2023 and 2030 targets, by reducing our CO2 intensity, water consumption, and waste, and by expanding our on-site renewable energy generation capacity. Stahl also submitted an emissions reduction target to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Stahl is committed to fostering ethical behavior through exemplary leadership and governance. Read more about the role of Governance within our wider ESG commitments in this section of the report.
For Stahl, good governance starts with listening to our stakeholders to understand their expectations of our organization and the issues that matter to them. We then address these issues strategically.
In addition to ensuring good governance in our operations, we aim to be a catalyst for a transparent, well-governed supply chain. Our participation in sustainability rating programs like EcoVadis helps us monitor our own ESG performance and provides greater transparency to customers and partners on issues such as environmental impact, health and safety, and human rights. The more partners that join us, the more best practices are embedded throughout the value chain.
In 2022, we established a global team to help prepare Stahl for the impact of the EU's forthcoming Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
